Accepting payments on ManhattanBNB

ManhattanBNB gives hosts autonomy over this listing — including how they would like to collect payments. But we highly recommend that hosts register with a credit card processor like Stripe (www.stripe.com).

Why should I register with a credit card processor?

Registering with a credit card processor like Stripe (www.stripe.com) lets you accept secure, seamless payments from international guests.

What is a credit card processor?

A credit card processor allows individuals and businesses to accept credit card payments for goods and services. Some of the most common providers include Stripe, Square, Adyen, and PayPal Business (note: a regular PayPal account does not allow easy credit card processing).

Why does this matter?

More than 50% of booking requests on ManhattanBNB come from international travelers. For these guests, paying by credit card is often their only option—they can’t use Venmo, Zelle, or other U.S.-only payment methods.

You're welcome to accept Venmo, Zelle, or bank transfers from domestic guests, but to receive bookings from international travelers, you must be able to accept credit card payments.

Do processors charge fees?

Yes. Processing fees are small – most credit card processors charge around 3% per transaction.

Almost every U.S. retailer includes this small cost in their prices: they consider it a cost of doing business. If you like, feel free to adjust your pricing accordingly. Additionally, you can incentivize guests to use Venmo or Zelle by offering a 3% discount (this setting is available in your host portal).

Remember: Accepting credit cards isn’t just a cost—it’s an investment in more bookings.

How do I get started accepting credit card payments for my ManhattanBNB listing?

  1. Register with a credit card processor. Stripe is our favorite (www.stripe.com) - this instructional video should help. If you choose PayPal, make sure you have a PayPal Business account—a regular PayPal account will not work.

  2. Log into your ManhattanBNB host portal and toggle the switch to let us know that you're able to accept credit cards

  3. [Optional] Speed up your payments with our Stripe integration

If you're using Stripe, you can share your Secret Key with us. This allows us to generate a secure payment link for your guests. Your funds remain 100% under your control—we cannot access your account (not that we'd want to!)

See the image below for where to find your secret key. You can email your key to hello@manhattanbnb.com.

If you don't use Stripe and prefer another credit card processor, don't worry! More integrations are coming shortly.
